Classroom Tour
Ms. Williamson’s Classroom Tour
Our Class Hallway
These are pictures from outside of our door. Every time we read a story we write down the title, characters, author, illustrator, and key events on a large strip of paper. Then we post the paper outside of the door in the hallway.
Our bulletin board is themed “Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom” after the story. Hanging from our Tree are monkeys with the kids names on the bananas. This bullitan board is where I post a lot of the children’s work and it changes by season throughout the year.
Reading Center
This is our reading center and Al’s Place. In the reading center are many books that we are currently reading or ones that the children enjoy. The little chairs are for children to sit in and relax when they read. The center also is used as Al’s place. Al’s Place is used for children to calm down, relax when they are upset, overwhelmed, or are having a rough day. Children are asked if they need to go and then they sit down hug some stuffed animals and calm down.
Housekeeping
Children use this center in the morning. In the center are some plastic food and housekeeping items. Children love using this center to act out daily living activities and to cook food for one another.
Our Carpet
This is where we spend a lot of our day, we read stories, sing songs, complete our calendar, counting jar, and complete our whole group activities.
Different Areas in the Classroom
This is our listening center, children sit on the carpet and put on headphones to listen to stories for center time.
This is our calendar. We put up all the numbers on our calendar for the whole month so that we can work on number relationships, patterns, simple addition and so that children can anticipate future events by counting up to them.
These views are of our classroom bulletin boards and computer center. In the wagon is where we keep our games and puzzles for center time and we use the computer to go on child friendly websites or to use computer programs that add to the curriculum in the calssroom. As we learn new things I post it up on our bulletin boards for each subject. Our science board has all the parts of a tree labeled, as well as our science vocabulary words.
This is our writing center that children go to to free write. Free writing is where I give them materials, construction paper, writing paper, drawing paper, coloring books, envelopes, and children make anything they want. Many children enjoy making things for each other, or children in other classes.
These are our morning charts that each child completes each morning. First they come in and give me their yellow folder. Then the move their name on our attendance chart from home to school. Then they go over to our lunch chart and put their name on our lunch chart under pack or buy.
This is our book tree. Everytime we read a book another leaf is added to the branches. Our goal is to read 100 books this year.
This is our job chart. Every child has a job sometime during the week. At some point in a month each child should get to do every job. Our jobs are line leader, teacher helper, water counter, paper passer, caboose, and door holder.
This is our stoplight that we use for behavior management. Every child has a clip and they start out on green each day. If I have to talk to them three times they move their clip to yellow and lose 5 minutes of recess. Then if I have to speak to them three more times they move their clip to red. If their clip is on red they get a note sent home, and loose 10 minutes of recess. Next if I have to speak to them again about their behavior they have to give their glip to me and I call home. Each child knows these consequences for their behavior and I stick to them with every child. However children can earn back a color by behaving well and following our class rules.
Cubbies
These are our cubbies where children put their coats, bookbags and all their papers.
